Located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Rocking Chair Inn Bed and Breakfast serves gourmet breakfasts and provides great sleeping on luxurious linens in the cool mountain air. Rocking Chair Inn is an 1860 historic two and a half story colonial farmhouse believed to have been built in the 1860’s and was a key stop in the Underground Railroad.
Owned then by Captain John Dent it has tunnels built under the house some twenty to thirty feet which guided runaway slaves to a narrow brick shaft leading up into the spring house. Open seven days and nights a week from May through October, a full breakfast is served Thursday through Sunday. Self Service Continental Breakfast is available Monday through Wednesday. The five bedroom four bath home, which was newly renovated in 2008 - 2009 is furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and collectibles. Watercolor and acrylic paintings and other artwork by the innkeepers decorate the Inn.
The home sits on one acre of land and is located just one mile from Mt. Jefferson and the New River. Hiking canoeing and rafting are readily available. Two beautiful mountain golf courses are nearby. The Inn is just four miles from the quaint town of West Jefferson, a culturally diverse slice of Americana offering art galleries, local crafts such as quilting, antique shops and restaurants. You can drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, go horseback riding or go fishing in local trout streams.
Amenities include luxury linens, flat screen television in the Parlor, gourmet breakfasts, hair dryers and WIFI for your Internet pleasure if you must stay in touch. We have a lending or exchange library, rocking chairs on the front porch with wine and appetizers at Five PM. And we have a gift shop coming soon.
We look forward to serving you as our guests and assisting you in enjoying this beautiful area of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
